A Fortune 500 manufacturer in Rockford Illinois is looking for a talented, high energy individual for a newly created position as the Assistant Operations Manager. The Assistant Operations Manager leads and coordinates all shift operations in a manner that enhances the plant’s safety, engagement, cost, productivity, efficiency, quality and customer service. The Assistant Operations Manager reports to the Operations Leader, and typically oversees and coordinates 40 hourly employees to perform all aspects of the day to day manufacturing process. The Assistant Operations Manager role was created to build talent for future succession in the local plant.

  • Ensure a safe, clean and environmentally compliant work environment and continue building a culture where safety is a first priority
  • Confirm that all control plans, work instructions and other procedures related to the technical operation of the production lines ensure the safety of employees
  • Develop risk assessments for critical tasks
  • Participate in wellness and community initiatives
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels across all shift for safe operations

Lead and Manage Operations

  • Engage and inspire teams at all levels and across functions to achieve results
  • Communicate and educate employees on plant goals to ensure a thorough understanding of how their daily work actions align with the achievement of these goals
  • Understand and communicate customer expectations throughout the Operations Department, and ensure all products meet customer standards and requirements
  • Ensure compliance with production schedule in order to meet customer demands
  • Ensure operational procedures align with product specifications, and quality metrics meet customers’ needs
  • Perform root cause failure analysis (RCFA) with the involvement of operators on all process upsets and create corrective actions
  • Train operators on problem solving skills, and coach through resolution
  • Gather input from and engage all team members in productivity initiatives to enhance processes
  • Co-lead the TPM AM pillar
  • Monitor and approve weekly payroll and track overtime
  • Act as the liaison between operations and maintenance to ensure OEE

Lead and Develop Talent

  • Monitor and enforce all plant and corporate policies and procedures
  • Utilize feedback, coaching and disciplinary action appropriately
  • Provide clear expectations of performance and hold team accountable to those expectations
  • Complete annual performance reviews with each team member
  • Actively lead and build effective work teams to increase plant performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives through growth and development
  • Create and track individual training plans based on individual and shift need
  • Support communication and training of TPM T&D initiatives (skills matrices, OPL, operations alerts, SWS)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations, Business or other related field
  • Minimum 3 years work experience in an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Minimum 2 years’ direct people leadership of hourly employees
  • Demonstrated ability to improve business results by working through others
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change to deliver results
  • Experience utilizing computer programs and Microsoft Office products to complete work-related tasks required.
