Block Inspector 1

Fresno, Texas

Position: Block Inspector

Department: Production, Furnace

Location: Fresno, TX

Reports To: Shift Supervisor, Plant/Operations Manager


Responsible for inspecting the finished FOAMGLAS® blocks for workmanship, finish, and appearance prior to packaging, and to salvage acceptable product from defective blocks by trimming out the imperfections.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

The employee should hold the following abilities:

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English, bi-lingual Spanish desired
  • Predominately, in alliance with the semiautomatic vision system, the worker is responsible for ensuring that the finished material exceeds the visual criteria for the grade that is being packed.
  • Perform salvage duties by using horizontal grinders or band saws to trim defects and generate ware that is acceptable.
  • Occasionally, the worker is required to help the Finishing Equipment Attendant set off palletized ware by manually removing ware from the line and placing it onto pallets.
  • Inform plant supervision when equipment is malfunctioning, and request aid as required from maintenance personnel.
  • Occasionally, the worker is required to remove unfinished or finished ware from various conveyors, due to equipment failures or scheduled maintenance.
  • Typically, upon the completion of the scheduled or unscheduled maintenance the worker will be required to place the finished or unfinished ware back on conveyors to be finished and/or packed.
  • The worker is required to have basic operation knowledge of the de-stacker's, horizontal facer's, edge grinder's, slicing saw's, packer's, labeler's, and shrink wrap machines.
  • The employee will provide regular relief for the Material and Equipment Controller (MEC) and Finishing Equipment Attendant (FEA). (Please refer to corresponding job descriptions regarding job duties and physical demands.)
  • Dispose of defective or unsalvageable material by feeding it into scrap crushers for recycling.
  • Utilizes forklift to discard hoppers of non-recyclable material, relocate or stock pallets of material, and to transfer warehoused material to the finishing and packing area for use.
  • Provide general cleanup, maintain good housekeeping conditions in working area, and observe safety regulations and practices.

Education and/or Experience

The employee should have the following:

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Minimum high school diploma or state approved GED equivalent
  • Must be a US citizen or have the right to work in the US
  • Must be tobacco, drug and alcohol free
  • Must be able to learn the responsibilities of the position

Additional Required Training

  • Manufacturing experience a plus
  • Able to interact cooperatively with hourly and salary employees at all levels of the organization
  • All annual safety and role specific training, as required by the nature of this position
