Description

The Manufacturing Engineer is a key member of the Delmar Plant team. The Manufacturing Engineer drives improvements in safety, productivity and quality, while reducing costs and assuring environmental compliance. The Manufacturing Engineer uses engineering skills to drive continuous improvement,and is responsible to maintain process and product specifications to support the manufacturing of quality products.

Responsibilities / Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Adhere to all plant and position-specific safety policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Maintain master files and history on all specifications and procedures.
  • Maintain and control packaging procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement resulting in increased productivity, improved product quality, and reduced process variability.
  • Monitor and maintain all process-related programs to control product specifications and set points.
  • Implement best practices for process setup, maintenance, and process control.
  • Support implementation of new processes and product introductions.
  • Ensure customer Fitness For Use are met with our productions
  • Provide technical and process support to our customers as required

This position reports to the Technical Leader.

Responsibilities

Live the Safety stand, adhere to the safety responsibilities.

  • Administer all required safety training.
  • Educate team members on safe operations of new processes or modifications.
  • Effectively communicate Owens Corning’s stand on safety throughout the Operations Department to ensure front line leaders and employees believe in and behave in a manner that supports our stand that all accidents are preventable, safety is everyone’s responsibility, and that working safely is a condition of employment at Owens Corning.
  • Ensure safe execution of all process/product trails, using appropriate tools such as process trial safety reviews, etc.

     Metrics

  • Personal Safety Action Plan (PSAP) - implement and review with leader
  • Safety Metrics – RIR, First Aids, Near Misses, SAFE, and Critical 6
  • Safety Improvement

Achieve customer satisfaction and quality commitments.

  • Ensure processes and products specifications are defined in order to meet Customers Fitness for Use criteria.
  • Serve as a quality advocate to operations - develop and implement objectives, targets, training, and standards.
  • Implement best practices for process setup, maintenance, and process control.
  • Provide technical support to customers, as required.

  • Thermal assurance program (TAP)

Execute Delmar’s Plant’s Continuous Improvement Plan.

  • Prioritize and implement productivity improvements.
  • Participate in Lean Toolkit training and utilize tools on regular basis.
  • Participate in and lead Kaizen and 5S events in various work areas throughout plant.
  • Support the implementation of standard work initiatives.

Ensure successful implementation of new process and product introduction into the Delmar Plant.

  • Ensure all product transfers and new product introductions are robust and capable.
  • Develop new product and packaging specifications.
  • Design and communicate clear, measurable process and product performance expectations.
  • Develop F.M.E.A. documentation.
  • Establish process and product specifications to meet Customers Fitness for Use Criteria.

 Requirements

Experience:

  1. Two or more years experience in manufacturing, industrial or related field.
  2. Six Sigma and Lean Certification preferred.
  3. Experience utilizing computer programs and Microsoft Office products.

Knowledge and Abilities:       

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering,
  2. Ability to travel, as required (10-20%).
  3. Proficient in use and interpretation of statistical tools.
  4. Ability to prioritize and adapt to a rapid changing environment while balancing multiple responsibilities.
  5. Ability to build strong team alignment and communication.
  6. Ability to coach and guide for results.
  7. Leads through safety and corporate vision.
  8. Possesses strong process and financial acumen.
  9. Possesses strong change management skills.
