Consistent with My Leadership Accountabilities the Quality Manager is accountable to ensure a quality product is being manufactured to meet or exceed our customer expectations. The Quality Manager establishes and maintains accurate process recipes for operations in order to safely produce products that consistently meet codes, specifications, and customer requirements at the lowest cost.  The Quality Manager is accountable to continuously improve the manufacturing process to eliminate waste, improve safety, reduce cost, increase capacity and productivity, and improve the end product.

The Quality Manager reports directly to the Site Leader.

Responsibilities

  1. Live the Safety stand, adhere to the safety responsibilities.

The Quality Manager will have responsibility for:

  • Ensuring a safe, clean and environmentally compliant work environment and building a culture where safety is a first priority
  • Ensuring that all control plans, work instructions, and other procedures related to the technical operation of the production lines ensure the safety of employees
  • Developing risk assessments for critical tasks

Metrics

  • Implement a personal safety action plan and review with leader
  • Safety metrics – RIR, first aids, near misses, BBS observations, SAFE and Critical 6

  1. Knowing our Customers

The Quality Manager will have responsibility for:

  • Identifying, understanding, and teaching others the Critical Product Characteristics required to provide our customers with a quality product
  • Developing and implementing procedures and systems to ensure products consistently meet or exceed customer expectations
  • Supporting experiments or trials for new and existing products to ensure they meet our customer’s fitness for use
  • Customer complaint participation, including job and home visits to personally view product in field.

  • Customer Complaints including Service Exceptions and Claim Dollars

  1. Directing Operations

The Quality Manager will have responsibility for:

  • Conducting daily process audits to review Critical Product Characteristics and Critical Process Variables and implementing sustainable corrective actions for process shifts or upsets
  • Determining process consistency and capability (Cpk)
  • Implementing control charting schemes for Critical Process Variables
  • Developing and implementing Operator Control Plans to ensure that all products meet specifications at the lowest cost
  • Conducting process audits and implementing corrective actions to ensure product consistency and maximum volume
  • Identifying and eliminating special causes of product and process variation (troubleshooting)
  • Analyzing product and process data, providing feedback and making recommendations to optimize performance
  • Networking with other plants and the Science & Technology Center (S&T) to identify and implement best practices.
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements. Improvements may originate from S&T or other facilities.
  • Implementing corrective actions for issues surfaced through quality complaints and hold tags
  • Coaching, counseling, and training all employees on process control
  • Creating, and documenting process settings and work instructions
  • Defining required maintenance actions to resolve equipment issues
  • Identifying and correcting repetitive equipment failures and working with Maintenance to identify and implement solutions
  • Identifying, analytically justifying and requesting capital funding for equipment, modifications, etc.
  • Defining and tracking measures of success

  1. Leading and Developing Talent

The Quality Manager will have responsibility for:

  • Training primary employees in the manufacturing process
  • Training employees in process control procedures
  • Working with employees to develop and implement Operator Control Plans
  • Partnering with Maintenance to develop and implement Total Productive Maintenance plans for equipment to ensure employee understanding and ownership

Job Requirements

Experience:

  1. Minimum of 5 years experience within a manufacturing or technical environment
  2. Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Master’s degree preferred

Knowledge and Abilities:

  1. Understands customer needs, product specifications, basic cost drivers and the Critical Process Variables (CPVs) that impact these elements
  2. Understands and works with basic principles of engineering
  3. Understands Six Sigma concepts including statistics, trial design, data analysis and control charting
  4. Understands basic elements of producing fiberglass including raw materials, processes and control systems
  5. Ability to communicate with and engage employees at all levels of the organization
  6. Strong background in Statistical Process Control techniques
  7. Ability to analyze and use data to drive process improvements
  8. Ability to manage multiple priorities or projects at one time
  9. Six Sigma Black Belt (preferred)
  10. Lean Certification or evidence of Lean Manufacturing experience
  11. Knowledge and experience with design of experiments
